Police seize drugs, weapon and cash in Stittsville bust

An Ottawa man is facing seven charges following a drug bust in Stittsville.

A search warrant was executed at home on Malahat Way on Monday, May 6, following a months-long investigation by the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ottawa Police Service (OPS).

Officers seized approximately $30,000 in Canadian currency, a loaded 9mm handgun, several government identifications that are believed to be forged, and a small quantity of suspected cocaine.

The investigation, dubbed Project CARNIVORE, began in February 2024 after investigators learned of an individual trafficking illicit drugs in the Ottawa area.

The investigation was led by the OPP Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG) in collaboration with the OPS Guns and Gangs Unit, Neighbourhood Resource Team and Tactical Unit.

Moiz Syed Sjaid, 21, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:

  • Possession of firearm without a license
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
  • Possession of schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
