Possibly ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect could be in Ottawa: Police

Ottawa Police Services (OPS) say a suspect on Canada’s most wanted list could be in the area.

According to a post on X by the force, Edmonton police believe Joseph Chlala, 23, could be in the Ottawa area. Chlala was number seven out of 25 most wanted criminals in Canada. 

Chlala’s last known residence was in the nation’s capital, the most wanted list by the Bolo Program reads.

In cooperation with Crime Stoppers Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta, the Bolo Program is offering a $50,000 award for any information leading to Chlala’s arrest.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on June 12, 2023 police were called to an alley in the south end of Edmonton where they found the body of a 21-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Chlala is wanted by Edmonton police for second-degree murder. According to the top 25 most wanted list, he is also wanted by the Calgary Police Service for being unlawfully at large.

According to the website, Chlala pleaded guilty to manslaughter after being charged previously with second-degree murder in 2020 in Calgary.

Chlala is described as being 5’5 and about 240 lbs, with green eyes and brown hair.

Police are asking the public to not approach Chlala as he could be armed and dangerous.
