Public water fountains across the city get a new look

“Hello, wonderful people of Ottawa! It’s me, your favourite Hydrant Fountain.”

At least that is what the City of Ottawa is saying in a press release about a new look for its public water fountains. The fountains have been popular with residents since it hit the streets, the municipality said.

The new look does not impact the job of the fountains as they will still “quench your thirst and hopefully put a smile on your face.”

Drinking water is tested 100,000 times annually according to the city, as it flows through more than 3,200 km of underground pipelines that connect 23,000 hydrants. The new fountains will not impact the ability for fire crews to access hydrants.

The city is asking residents if they want to see the fountain in their neighbourhood to email hydrants@ottawa.ca.

“Whether you’re out for a stroll in the park, attending a local event, or just rolling by on your way home from work, I’ll be there,” the fountain said.
