The Rideau River multi-use pathway connecting Carleton University and Vincent Massey Park is now open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Extending over the Rideau River, the bridge is located beside O-Train Line 2 and provides an easy connection between the areas, with access to the RA Centre, Hogs Back Falls, Billings Bridge Shopping Centre and more.
The project is a part of the Stage 2 South extension that began in 2022, when construction crews spent two days lifting the main structure of the 65-metre bridge into place using a 750-tonne crane, said the City of Ottawa in a news release.
“Since then, they’ve been hard at work finishing the project so Carleton University students and other area residents can benefit from its convenient location,” the release reads.
According to the city, the project will extend light rail transit service from Bayview Station to Limebank Station in Riverside South and will include a link to the Ottawa International Airport on O-Train Line 4.
Additionally, this extension restores LRT service on Line 2, adding eight new stations and new connections, including the new Hunt Club multi-use pathway bridge and the High Road wildlife bridge.
The contractor will be completing work to the substructure underneath the bridge and to surrounding landscape, over the coming weeks. The city notes that this should not affect pedestrians or cyclists.
Over the coming weeks, the contractor will be completing some final works to the substructure underneath the bridge and to the surrounding landscape. These activities should not affect users.
