Road rage incident on Hwy. 417 leads to weapon charges for Ottawa man

Five charges have been laid after a road rage incident in Ottawa’s east end.

Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 417 shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, July 12.

According to the OPP, a man involved in the crash became angry and struck the other driver’s vehicle with a large object, breaking the taillight.

The man then fled the scene.

The driver, Andrew Wykurz, 61, of Ottawa, was located and now faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Failure to stop after an accident
  • Dangerous operation
  • Assault with a weapon

Wykurz is set to appear in court on August 30.
