Provincial police have laid charges after an incident of shoplifting and a foot chase in Carleton Place.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, Lanark County OPP officers responded to a department store on McNeely Avenue.
Police say a man had taken a number of items and left the store without paying.
The accused was located in a nearby restaurant parking lot, but took off running, jumping several chain link fences before surrendering to police.
The investigation determined the man had been banned from the store at an earlier date and was also wanted in western Ontario for outstanding warrants.
A 43-year-old man faces the following charges under the Trespass to Property Act:
- Enter premises when prohibited
- Engage in prohibited activity on premises
The accused was held in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for April 10 in Perth.
