Single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 7 results in impaired driving charges

Police responded to a vehicle collision on Highway 7 in Drummond/North Elmsley Township on Monday.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. and attending officers arrested the driver and brought him to the Lanark provincial police detachment for testing. Through the investigation, officials believe he was driving under the influence.

Christopher Demers, 44 of Ottawa, is facing:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol    

His licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a week.

The accused is set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth in mid-January.
