Structural collapse team kept busy after vehicles crash into two separate homes: OFS

Ottawa firefighters were kept busy with two structural collapses Thursday after two separate cases of vehicles crashing into homes.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to the 3000 block of Uplands Drive.

A driver had crashed their vehicle into the front of a townhome causing significant structural damage.

The OFS structural collapse team was dispatched to the scene and quickly began shoring the areas of the home where the structural integrity was comprised, using lumber to create temporary supports.

The vehicle was safely moved away from the home and the scene was cleared within about 90 minutes.

Then, shortly after 11 p.m., the team was called out to the 100 block of Allandford Avenue where a driver had crashed their vehicle into the front of a two-story single-family home.

Crews arrived to find the vehicle halfway into the garage and the exterior wall partially collapsed.

Power to the garage was isolated and the structural collapse team used paratech posts to stabilize the exterior wall.

Once the wall was stabilized, the vehicle was removed from the area and the scene was cleared within two hours.

There are no reported injuries in either incident and no residents were displaced.
