Suspended driver caught going 70 km/h over speed limit in school zone

The Ottawa Police Service’s (OPS) traffic unit continues to catch “lead-footed” drivers in the nation’s capital.

The latest incident happened Dec. 18 just after 11:00 a.m. near a school in the Carlington community.

According to police, a suspended driver was going 120 km/h in a 50 km/h zone along Fisher Avenue near Trent Street. Police also note that the driver was flying past Turnbull School, a private elementary school.

They received a stunt driving charge, a 30-day license suspension (despite the fact they were already suspended), a 14-day vehicle impound and a court date. If convicted they could face a $2,000 fine.

This incident comes after officers caught three people stunt driving within two hours of each other over the weekend.

On Dec. 15, police wrote in a post on X that three drivers under the age of 25 were caught going well above the speed limit on Highway 174.

One driver was going 134 km/h, another 137 km/h and the last driver was caught travelling 154 km/h. Police note this area is an 80 km/h zone.

One of the people caught also had their spouse and toddler in the vehicle.
