Thanksgiving schedule changes and closures for Ottawa

The Thanksgiving long weekend is upon us — the last long weekend before Christmas.

For those heading out on Thanksgiving Monday, keep in mind that while some businesses are open on the holiday, others are either closed or operating on reduced hours.

Retail and attractions:

Most grocery stores are closed Monday, with some exceptions:

  • The Metro at 754 Bank Street is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The Metro at 225 Rideau is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The Wholefoods at Lansdowne is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The Loblaws on Isabella Street is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The Loblaws on Rideau Street is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • The Rideau Centre Farm Boy is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Shops and restaurants in the ByWard Market and Lansdowne are permitted to open.

Malls are closed Monday, with the exception of the Rideau Centre which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on the Quebec side, Les Galleries de Hull, Les Promenades de l’Outaouais and Costco are open.

Many drug stores remain open on Monday.

LCBO and Beer Store locations are closed Monday, while some Wine Rack locations are open.

There are also a number of city services either unavailable or operating reduced hours on Monday.

City of Ottawa schedule changes:

Client Service Centres:

  • The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only. Please visit ottawa.ca/311 for more information.
  • ServiceOttawa’s Client Services and Provincial Offences counters and phone lines will be closed.
  • The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Avenue will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic at 26 Concourse Gate will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed from Saturday, Oct. 12 to Monday, Oct. 14.
  • The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, the Karsh-Masson Gallery, and the City Hall Art Gallery will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14.

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection:

  • There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Monday, Oct. 14. Pick up will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 15. In addition, the collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
  • Residents can sign up to receive collection reminders and service alerts by email or phone call at ottawa.ca/CollectionCalendar.
  • Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular scheduled day. Collections of multi-residential recycling containers, bulky items and green bins will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
  • The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open on Monday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Transit Services:

  • OC Transpo service will run on a Sunday schedule.
  • O-Train Line 1 will run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Line 2 bus service will run from 7:15 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Rural Shopper Route 301 will not run.
  • The Rideau Centre OC Transpo Customer Service Centre will be open on Monday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The OC Transpo Lost and Found (Heartwood House) will be closed.

Recreation and cultural services:

  • Many community centres and recreation facilities will be closed, some throughout the weekend and most on Monday. A limited number of pools, arenas, recreation and fitness complexes open and operating on a modified schedule. Please check the facility pages on ottawa.ca for details.
  • Arts Court, City-operated museums, Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, and Shenkman Arts Centre will be closed on Monday. Nepean Creative Arts Centre and Nepean Visual Arts Centre will be closed through the weekend.

Ottawa Public Health

  • The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence Street will be closed. The Site mobile van will operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • Visit the ParentingInOttawa web page for vaccination clinic hours and availability.
  • The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed.
  • Dental clinics will be closed.
  • The Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14.

  • Connect with a registered nurse from Health811 for free, secure, and confidential health advice.

Employment and Social Services:

All four Employment and Social Services offices will be closed on Monday, Oct.14:

  • 370 Catherine Street
  • 2339 Ogilvie Road
  • 100 Constellation Drive
  • 2020 Walkley Road

Municipal childcare services:

  • All municipal childcare centres will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14.

Ottawa Public Library:

  • All branches of Ottawa Public Library will be closed.

Parking:

  • All parking restrictions will remain in effect.
