Three-alarm fire leaves three Nepean townhomes damaged

An early morning fire in Nepean has left multiple people without a place to stay.

Ottawa fire Services (OFS) responded to a townhouse complex on Chesterton Drive, between Mulvagh Avenue and Southview Crescent, around 2:50 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30.

Fire dispatch had received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting flames coming from the roof of the six unit complex, which was confirmed by fire crews arriving on scene.

A second alarm fire was declared at 2:56 a.m., which was quickly followed by a third alarm to dispatch additional resources to the scene.

Firefighters began a fast attack and advanced multiple hose lines onto the flames.

Firefighters opened up walls and ceilings to get the flames, which spread into neighbouring units on each side, and hydro was shut down for the entire complex.

At 4:06 a.m., firefighters had completed their searches of the units and confirmed there were no occupants inside.

The fire was declared under control by 4:30 a.m. and was contained before it could spread past the two adjoining units where the fire started.

A fire investigator has responded to the scene and victim assistance is helping those who have been displaced.

There are no reported injuries.
