The Ottawa detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) caught three drivers going well above the speed limit on Highway 417 on Thursday night.
According to police the drivers were charged with stunt driving after being stopped between Moodie Drive, March Road and Eagleson Road. One of them was a G2 driver.
Michael Fathi, Media Relations Officer with OPP, told CityNews that none of the drivers are repeat offenders.
“OPP continue to try and educate the public through our social media posts and through enforcement about the dangers of stunt driving, as well as the financial and long term driving consequences for those convicted of stunt driving,” he said.
“It’s regrettable to see that the message has not been received by some.”
Each of the drivers had a roadside 30-day licence suspension and a 12-day vehicle impound. They face a minimum of $2,000 fine and six demerits on top of a one year driving suspension upon conviction.
One driver was caught driving at 176 km/h.
Two were caught driving 154 km/h and 155 km/h respectively.
