Three people from Ottawa are facing multiple charges following a high-risk traffic stop over the weekend.
On June 1, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information that a vehicle travelling on Highway 17 eastbound from Pembroke was believed to have a loaded firearm inside.
Renfrew OPP located the vehicle, completed a high-risk traffic stop and closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 417, west of Campbell Drive.
As a result of the investigation, Pembroke and Renfrew OPP seized a loaded firearm, drugs and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Elijah Desmond Adan, 23, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:
- Breach of firearms regulation- transport firearm or restricted weapon
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
- Adult possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order (two counts)
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000- in Canada
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Adult possession weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine
- Fail to comply with probation order (six counts)
- Trafficking schedule I substance- cocaine
- Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Marie Ebony Barnabe, 27, of Ottawa faces the following charges:
- Breach of firearms regulation- transport firearm or restricted weapon
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
- Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000- in Canada
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (two counts)
- Trafficking schedule I substance- cocaine
Brandon Kennedy Earl Parent, 23, of Kanata, faces the following charges:
- Breach of firearms regulation- transport firearm or restricted weapon
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
- Adult possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000- in Canada
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (two counts)
- Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Trafficking schedule I substance- cocaine
- The three accused were held for bail.
