Traffic stop leads to drug and weapons charges against Ottawa man

An Ottawa man is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop on Highway 417.

Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a driver for speeding near Terry Fox Drive. 

The driver was found to have Cannabis readily available and a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a firearm and ammunition.

Mahmoud Rawbe, 28, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:

  • Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition order (two counts)

Rawbe is scheduled to appear in court on June 28, 2024.
