“Never a dull day on the water,” a post on X from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reads.
According to the force, a Marine Unit from the detachment of the Leeds and Grenville OPP were patrolling the St. Lawrence River west of Brockville, Ont.
On Thursday afternoon around 3:00, they stopped a boat to check for safety equipment onboard and found more.
Officers learned the operator was carrying a concealed 9mm handgun and two magazines with ammunition. They were arrested by OPP.
Officials learned they were a citizen of the U.S. and brought them to the Canadian Border where officers assisted OPP in the investigation. The boat operator was criminally charged for carrying a canceled weapon, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition and unauthorized importing or exporting.
They were later released and returned to the U.S.
“Always make sure you aware of the local and federal laws when visiting another province, territory, or country,” OPP said.
