Youth “facing consequences” after firearm threat at Petawawa school: OPP

A young person will face consequences in connection with a threat towards a school in Petawawa.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP began investigating a threatening phone message to use a firearm at the school.

OPP officers and school officials worked quickly to identify the potential suspect and investigate the threat, and it was determined the person responsible for the threat did not have access to firearms.

Police say the youth also didn’t initially grasp the seriousness of such comments.

As a result of the investigation a 14-year-old from Pembroke will have charges diverted and face Extra Judicial Measures (EJM) in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and their parents were notified.

The name of the youth cannot be released under the provisions of the YCJA.

Police say there is no threat to public safety.
