A G2 driver will have to explain to their father why he doesn’t have a car for work this week after being stopped for speeding in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer observed an 18-year-old driver going 125 km/h on Bronson Avenue on Sunday. The speed limit is 70 km/h.
“‘But my dad needs the car for work’ didn’t cut-it for an 18-year-old G2 driver caught doing 125 in a post 70 km/h zone,” police said on X.
The driver is facing a charge of stunt driving, which includes a 30-day license suspension, and the vehicle is impounded for 14 days.
Officers issued several charges for stunt driving on Hwy. 417 and local roads over the weekend.
On Sunday, police said a driver was stopped going 155 km/h on Highway 417.
“Slowing as you pass a police vehicle on the 417…only to accelerate to 155 km/h (without realizing a second unmarked OPS Traffic Escort and Enforcement Vehicle is behind you) is never going to end well,” police said on X.
Meantime, a driver is facing their second stunt driving charge since 2023 after being stopped speeding on Davidson Road.
The driver was observed going 144 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the road in Ottawa’s south end.
“Out for a Sunday drive? Not for long if it includes doing 64 km/h over the posted limit, as was the case earlier today,” police said on X.
