An Ottawa driver was stopped Saturday night after being caught speeding and registering an “‘Alert’ on the roadside screening device” on Highway 417, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Police say the driver was stopped after clocking 135 km/h on the highway.”
That was when then driver registered an “Alert” on the screening device and police found that they had been drinking.
They received a three-day driver’s licence suspension, police say, noting that it will remain their on their record for five years.
The car was not impounded, as the police allowed “the passenger, who was sober” to drive it home.
“This driver took a totally unnecessary risk and paid the price,” the OPP said in a post on X Sunday.
