A gas leak that happened at a compressor station near Cornwall, Ont. Saturday morning has been controlled, according to TC Energy.
TC Energy’s emergency response procedures were immediately activated following the incident, the company told CTV News Ottawa in a statement.
The gas company says it received information around 5:40 a.m., reporting “an event at its compressor station” in the Municipality of Martintown on County Road 20.
“We worked closely with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the South Glengarry Fire Department to ensure a safe response,” read the statement.
The South Glengarry Fire Department said on Facebook it responded to a natural gas leak early Saturday morning, noting that the incident has been “resolved by the appropriate agencies.”
Control of the site was returned to TC Energy after the affected area was isolated at 7:17 a.m.
The company notes that the incident did not affect commercial operations. It says the system is operating normally, adding that safety of its workers, the public and the environment remains its top priority.
“We continue to communicate with our stakeholders in the area,” TC Energy said in the statement.
